What is Carers Choice?
Carers Choice is a new program
developed by the Victorian State and Commonwealth Governments to benefit
Carers and Care recipients.
The program recognises the
value of the work carried out by carers, and, aims to support people in
their caring role.
Through the Carer support
Worker, the Program offers support and can access some discretionary funds
to assist in the provision of both planned and emergency
respite.
Am I a Carer?
A CARER is a person
who is responsible for looking after someone with a disability, who is
frail aged or who has a chronic illness and may need assistance with daily
living tasks. The carer can ba a family member, close friend, or a
neighbor.
What do you mean by respite?
Respite can be defined as
an alternative arrangement that enables time out or a break from the caring
role.
Aims of the Program.
In assisting with planning
for time out, Carers choice aims to:
Provide maximum benefit to the carer and the person being cared
for.
Maintain the quality of life for the carer, their dependents and the person
being cared for.
Enables the carer to continue in their caring role.
To assist in linking carers with local support services and support
groups.
