About Carers Choice

What is Carers Choice?

Carers Choice is a new program developed by the Victorian State and Commonwealth Governments to benefit Carers and Care recipients.

The program recognises the value of the work carried out by carers, and, aims to support people in their caring role.

Through the Carer support Worker, the Program offers support and can access some discretionary funds to assist in the provision of both planned and emergency respite.

Am I a Carer?

A CARER is a person who is responsible for looking after someone with a disability, who is frail aged or who has a chronic illness and may need assistance with daily living tasks. The carer can ba a family member, close friend, or a neighbor.

What do you mean by respite?

Respite can be defined as an alternative arrangement that enables time out or a break from the caring role.

Aims of the Program.

In assisting with planning for time out, Carers choice aims to:

  • Provide maximum benefit to the carer and the person being cared for.
  • Maintain the quality of life for the carer, their dependents and the person being cared for.
  • Enables the carer to continue in their caring role.
  • To assist in linking carers with local support services and support groups.
