Heart medication

Heart failure means failure of the heart to perform its job of pumping blood to the lungs and to the remainder of the body. It can be treated with the drugs below. This treatment should be regularyly monitored by a doctor

Frusemide Small white tablet.
(Lasix®,

Urex®)

Usually referred to as a 'water tablet'.
Digoxin

(Lanoxin®)

Either a small white or very small blue tablet (depending on dose).
Increases the heart's output.
Potassium

(Slow K®,

KSR®)

This is used with Lasix® to replace the potassium (a salt) that is lost with Lasix®.
