Women’s Access to Online Services
As information services become a fundamental part of our society’s infrastructure, it is vitally important for Australia’s continuing development as an equitable society that we ensure that all Australians can access and make productive use of information and communication services. The current Commonwealth Government has confirmed the view that private commerce will be the driver of innovation and investment in the new online services, but that it will "never tolerate the emergence of an information underclass", saying that there must be ‘public parks’ on the information superhighway (Australia Online, 1996, p9).
